A workshop ‘The Nature and Psychology of the Legal Preambles in Plato’s Laws’ will be held in Pisa on Wednesday, June 15th. The location of the workshop is the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica (Piazza S. Paolo all’Orto 20, Pisa). The workshop is generously made possible by the Dipartimento di Civiltà e Forme del Sapere of the University of Pisa and organised in collaboration with PLAT-IT, Gruppo di ricerca su Platone e il platonismo. Speakers include Hallvard Fossheim, Franco Ferrari, Silvia Gastaldi, Lavinia Peluso, Maria Michela Sassi and Franco Trabattoni. The full programme is listed below.
The function of the preambles in Plato’s Laws has long been an object of controversy — without yielding a consensus — but has become somewhat marginal in more recent debates. This workshop aims to explore possible approaches to the function of the preambles in Plato’s last work. Papers are in English and Italian.
Participants are asked to register by Monday 13 June, by sending an email to myrthe.bartels@cfs.unipi.it. There will be a possibility to join online through MS Teams.
